15 Apr, 2025

Greetings, O3DE community! We’re excited to bring you the first issue of the Open 3D Engine newsletter, where you’ll get the latest updates, news, and insights from the ecosystem. Whether you’re a seasoned developer, an enthusiastic hobbyist, or just beginning your journey into open-source game and simulation development, this newsletter is your gateway to everything happening in the O3DE world. Each edition will cover key topics, including project updates, tutorials and events.

2024 saw growth in both gaming and simulation users for O3DE, with a 36% increase in downloads for 2024 across Debian and Windows packages. We had 1 major release (24.9.0) and 3 point releases. Our major release shipped with 94 major and minor new features, and hundreds of bug fixes. Thanks to the 300 contributors that helped make the release possible! Learn more in this blog and video by Joe Bryant, Executive Director of Open 3D Foundation.

We’ve also seen an increase from January 1 – March 10, 2025. We had 5,600 downloads at that time in 2024, but this year, we are at 21,000 downloads (see above graph).
