Inside O3DE: AMA with John Bryant, Executive Director of Open 3D Foundation

22 Sep, 2025 | 4 min read

Open 3D Engine hosts a series of monthly virtual meetups that provide an opportunity for the community to build new connections, learn more about O3DE, and ask questions. These monthly Connect meetings typically accommodate all levels of expertise, with guidance, step-by-step demos and tips and tricks.

All O3DE Connect meetings are recorded and posted on the Open 3D Engine Youtube Channel. Check out the complete playlist here.

For our September edition of O3DE Connect held on September 10, we hosted a special Ask Me Anything (AMA) session with John Bryant, Executive Director of the Open 3D Foundation (O3DF). This was a space for the community to ask direct and open questions about O3DE’s future, the role of open source, how O3DE compares to other engines in the industry, and more.

Highlights from the AMA

John Bryant answered a wide range of community questions, including:

  • Why O3DE? Why open source?

O3DE was built to offer a high-quality, feature-rich alternative to existing engines, without licensing restrictions or costs. As an open-source project, its development is community-driven, meaning the features that get built are the ones developers value and invest in. With full access to the source code at no charge, anyone can adapt O3DE to meet their individual or business needs.

  • How is O3DE doing?

O3DE is on track for 190% growth year over year in 2025!

  • What is the future of O3DE and what pillars are we aiming for?

Robotics & Simulation, Games, and Film/Video.

…and much more from the live Q&A!👇
