06 Aug, 2025 | 4 min read

The atmosphere in Hall 3 of Hyderabad International Convention Centre was buzzing with anticipation. Attendees from around the globe gathered for the Open Source Summit India’s welcome and opening remarks. Arpit Joshipura, GM of Networking and Edge at the Linux Foundation delivered a keynote not only spotlighting the progress of open source, but the expanding role of Open 3D Engine (O3DE) in the 3D engine space.

India’s Role in the O3DE Ecosystem

As the Head of LF India, Arpit did not miss the opportunity to emphasize how Indian developers are increasingly contributing to O3DE, ranging from robotic simulation, game, and vfx engine. He also noted the increasing involvement of academic institutions, like O3DE’s new member Indian Institute of Technology Madras, playing a role in the development of O3DE’s progress.

In the last several years, there has been a significant growth of developers within the O3DE ecosystem, with India consistently in the top 5 users. Quarter over quarter, there was also an increase in contributions from developers from India. With this continued growth and engagement, the attention turned to what’s ahead for O3DE as India’s influence continues to develop and as the broader ecosystem evolves.

What’s ahead?

Arpit concluded by encouraging developers across India to continue exploring and contributing to O3DE. He also revealed exciting plans for the region, including game jams, content jams, and robotic initiatives. As the keynote drew close to the end, one message resonated clearly; O3DE is more than a game development tool, it is a global platform for shaping the future of digital experiences across industries.
