Open 3D Engine hosts a series of monthly virtual meetups that provide an opportunity for the community to build new connections, learn more about O3DE, and ask questions. These monthly Connect meetings typically accommodate all levels of expertise, with guidance, step-by-step demos and tips and tricks.
All O3DE Connect meetings are recorded and posted on the Open 3D Engine Youtube Channel. Check out the complete playlist here.
This month, Jan Hanca from Robotec.ai, presented a demo from the perspective of a simulation engineer. He went over how to use O3DE – ranging from simulating single sensors to orchestrating multiple robots in collaborative settings and more.
A few highlights from the demo:
- Highlights include open-source licensing, C++ implementation, and a robust renderer for realistic AI data generation. This ensures no reliance on costly licensing changes, such as Unity’s pricing model adjustments.
- The Robotec.ai team developed reusable gems and templates for simplified project setup. Specific gems, such as ROS2 integration, facilitate seamless simulations and efficient data handling.
- Safety and efficiency are prioritized through simulations. Companies can test failure scenarios and scale operations virtually, significantly saving time and reducing risks in real-world scenarios.
- The presentation showcased importing robots, configuring sensors, and connecting them to the ROS2 ecosystem for dynamic simulation setups. Examples include light sensing via ROS2 services and real-time robot control.
- Robotec.ai’s contributions include gems for vehicle dynamics, hardware-in-the-loop demos, and generative AI integrations, demonstrating the versatility of O3DE.
